The Atlanta Falcons, established in 1965, have experienced various ups and downs throughout their history. They played their first season in 1966 and had their first winning season in 1971. The late 1970s saw their first playoff appearances, with a division title in 1980. The 1990s brought renewed success, including their first Super Bowl appearance in 1998 under coach Dan Reeves while playing their games in the newly built Georgia Dome in 1992. The early 2000s were marked by the excitement of quarterback Michael Vick, whom the Falcons drafted No. 1 overall in 2001. Vick played six seasons, leading the Falcons to two playoff appearances (2002, ‘04) and a 2-2 mark in the postseason. In February 2002, American businessman Arthur Blank purchased the Falcons. The drafting of quarterback Matt Ryan in 2008 and wide receiver Julio Jones heralded a new era, culminating in a Super Bowl appearance in 2016, where they suffered a historic loss to the Patriots. For the 2017 season, the Falcons moved into their new home – Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Recent years have focused on rebuilding under head coach Arthur Smith, who was fired by the club after three consecutive 7-10 campaigns and no playoff appearances, extending Atanta’s playoff drought to six seasons. Raheem Morris took over the head coaching reins for Atlanta beginning with the 2024-25 season. Despite challenges, the Falcons remain dedicated to building a championship team.
