Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies are a professional baseball team stationed in Denver, Colorado. Often referred to as “The Rocks” or “The Rox”, the Colorado Rockies battle in the Western Division of Major League Baseball's National League (NL West). Home games are played in downtown Denver at Coors Field while Spring Training is held at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, located in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The Rockies were an expansion team that, along with the Florida Marlins, got their start the 1993 season. Almost 4.5 million fans attended the Rockies’ home games during the debut season at Mile High Stadium. The franchise still holds the record for season attendance; almost 200k more fans than the second attendance leader (New York Yankees during the 2008 season).

Where do the Rockies play their home games?

  • Between 1993 and 1994, the Colorado Rockies called Mile High Stadium home. Mile High was originally constructed as a baseball stadium to bolster the Denver Bears (originally called Bears Stadium) but became the home of the Denver Broncos in 1960. The Rockies briefly shared the space with the Broncos while Coors Field was fashioned. After the record turn out of the 1993 season, the decision was made during construction to expand Coors Field to accommodate the expected multitude of fans. Coors Field is equipped with an underground heating system that prevents the field from freezing.

  • Also during the construction of Coors Field, workers unearthed a slew of dinosaur fossils resulting in the creation of team mascot, Dinger. Dinger is a purple dinosaur that began entertaining fans in 1994 while the team was still located at Mile High Stadium. He closes games from behind home plate in order to support the team and distract opposing players.

The Colorado Rockies were able to make the postseason five times since their 1993 inception. All appearances were achieved through Wild Card berths however the team has yet to win the NL West Division title. The Rockies won the 2007 National League Pennant and are still vying for their first World Series title.

The current manager of the Rockies is Bud Black. Some of the most prominent players on the Rockies include Trevor Story, Charlie Blackmon, and Jon Gray. Don’t miss any of these Rockies stars and get your Rockies tickets at sitickets.com
