The Denver Nuggets are an American professional basketball team that competes in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Western Conference. The Nuggets play their home games at Ball Arena. In 1967 the team was founded as the Denver Larks, competing in the ABA. Before their first game, they changed their name to the Rockets before settling on the Nuggets in 1974. The Nuggets joined the NBA in 1976 as part of the NBA-ABA merger.

The Nuggets are one of the Western Conference’s leading contenders, finishing with a top four record in each of the last three seasons. The team is led by reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic. Jokic averaged 26.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game. Jokic is widely considered the greatest passing big man of all time. Point guard Jamal Murray returns this season after a torn ACL. Murray was in the midst of a career season last year, averaging 21.2 points per game. This came after a phenomenal postseason in 2020, when he helped Denver overcome 3-1 deficits in each of the first two rounds. Forward Michael Porter Jr. looks to take another step forward this season, after stepping up as a scorer in Murray’s absence. Trade deadline acquisition Aaron Gordon re-upped in the offseason with a four year, $92 million contract extension. Coach Mike Malone looks to lead a deep Denver Nuggets roster to a deep playoff run this season.
